Go on, admit it, you’re wondering what the SXY stands for... While South Yarra has often been considered Melbourne’s most fashionable suburb, there’s a much more interesting story behind our name.
You see, when you stay in one of our 4.5 star serviced apartments you’re actually residing in a delicious slice of Melbourne history; the former Tetley Tea Company and its factory! With the closure of the factory in 2003, the area underwent a significant redevelopment which gave rise to a range of residential properties, offices, shops, and show rooms, which became known as SXY.
So what does the ‘X’ in between ‘South’ and ‘Yarra’ actually stand for? Well, that depends on who you ask! The property developers say that this wonderful new development encapsulates all that is eXciting, eXtraordinary, and eXclusive about contemporary South Yarra living.
The locals who work and play in the area, have a different story. They like to tell us that the X represents the eXhilarating and eXuberant ‘eXpresso’ culture and nightlife.
